My Heart's Desire Was Where I Was Most Unqualified
To The Unqualified
Do you ever find yourself feeling unqualified and out of place? Then you are probably in the right place! There are so many blessings and delights for the unqualified.
Yes. The UNqualified.
It's a word I've come to embrace. It's a brutal and humiliating word, yet it carries the secrets to the hope and dreams every human soul clamours to grasp and hold close. This word represents the door to the narrow path that leads to what our heart beats for.
For me, I spent most of my life avoiding it—being unqualified, that is—working tirelessly to become qualified for something...anything; to reach a measure of achievement yet never quite getting there. A situation quite reflective of 2 Timothy 3:7, "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
While I'm uncertain of the precise meaning or intent of the 2 Timothy verse, working tirelessly to become qualified for something meaningful and still missing the mark feels like this.
It's embarrassing to be unqualified—and it feels unstable.
What I realized after many years of frustration is that this is where God was answering my prayers. When we pray to be close to Him, be like Him, and fulfill our destiny, He loves it! But, oh, how we complain and moan when He begins to answer our prayers.
The narrow road isn't easy because it requires going beyond ourselves. That is where faith is. That is where God shows up. There's no faith in accomplishing what we are capable of doing. We won't see God in our efforts as we'll think exactly that...that we did something.
If your heart beats for the "exceedingly and abundantly" of God, He will make sure to put you into a position where you are out of your league, over your head, upstream without a paddle...in other words, most definitely unqualified!
ASK GOD TO GIVE YOU THE DESIRE OF YOUR HEART
Rather than assume that what we are gifted in reflects the callings and deep desires of our heart, ask God to show you. Most of the time His answer is indirect, opening doors and opportunities or closing others. Perhaps you'll find a growing discontent with the place you are in at the moment.
Our giftings and strengths don't necessarily indicate our calling.
It can, but most of the time, God puts us in a situation or place where we are unable. It is here that God shows off; He can reveal His glory through you!
When I first felt the tug to start a magazine, I laughed it off. Like seriously. I avoided those thoughts. I had zero experience, and I was a terrible English student. Oh, I liked writing, loved it actually...in my journal.
When the pull to start a magazine became unavoidable, I gave in and stepped out in faith. I had to. I knew NOTHING. Zip, zero, nada. But I knew how to build a website/blog, so I started there.
Three months after surrendering to that tug on my heart that couldn't be ignored, I digitally published my first magazine edition! Three months after that, I PRINTED my first magazine edition. At the time of writing this post, I am writing and designing my 12th edition.
And you know what? In the process, I realized that God was giving me the desire of my heart. However, I didn't know it until after I took the first step of faith as an UNQUALIFIED writer and publisher!
IT TAKES HUMILITY TO BE UNQUALIFIED
Unqualified is the position of humility before Yahweh. It's where we allow Him, through our surrender, to go above and beyond our expectations and to pull back the veil in our soul, revealing the true desires of our hearts. This is the point of faith in action.
Do you feel a tug in your soul? Is there a growing "holy discontent"? Before jumping to conclusions and quitting or changing your situation, get alone with Yahweh and talk to Him. Ask Him to reveal the desires of your heart, and if that involves stepping into something for which you are hopelessly unqualified, then believe that He will give you the grace to walk that road.
For those who find themselves unqualified, you are positioned for God to do something above and beyond all that you can ask or imagine!
