How To Look For Hidden Blessings

There are blessings and opportunities hidden in every day—no matter what is going on—waiting to be discovered.

This week was journey of wrestling at being glad for each day and grasping what that really meant, practically speaking. Plus…intentionally pausing in the morning to LOOK at the day, recognizing it as a literal gift from God:

HE MADE IT. TODAY. FOR US.

That means there are blessings and opportunities hidden in this day waiting to be discovered! (For everyone!)

Feelings are irrelevant in the sense that it is still a good day full of blessings no matter what is happening around me. Can I set aside any disappointments or struggles for a moment and thank Him for today and then ask Him to reveal the possibilities, opportunities, and delights that are mine to be had?!

A few days ago, I wasn't feeling it, blessed, that is. But that's when I felt nudged with the thought of a well known verse: “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) Except, I wasn't glad and certainly had no energy to rejoice. This is a common verse I've heard thousands and thousands of times; so much so, it's become plain and, sadly, had lost meaning to me.

In my Puddleglum gloom at that moment, I recalled how feelings are fickle and deceptive so I pulled myself up and looked OUT at the beautiful day instead of inward at any discouragement. I opened my Bible and found the verse that had become so insignificant to me and as I pondered it, my gloominess instantly started dissolving. As a result, for the last few days, I've done two things (actually three) in the morning:

1. Give a verbal, “Good morning,” to God.

2. Speak out the word, “YES" (meaning, I say “yes” to whatever God has planned for this day.)

3. And new this week: I look outside, take a deep breath, and say, “Father, thank you for making this day for me!”

I've enjoyed doing this SO much that yesterday I found myself thanking God multiple times throughout the day, for making today. As a result, my happiness meter feels off the charts making the last several days so incredibly enjoyable.🥰

Why not declare that this is a BEAUTIFUL DAY! (Even if it has to be done in faith—without the immediate partnership of your feelings.)
