When it comes to shifting our environment or something in our lives, it requires doing something different. Probably something unexpected. I've been challenged in the past to DSD (do something different) and while I liked the message, I wasn't sure what that looked like. To me, it was something major that would rock my world (because I'm an all-in, jump-in-with-both-feet, take-off-running-until-I-hit-a-wall personality). Yet, what I've discovered is that a quick, major shift is much like a hard turn in a vehicle or boat—one that can have disastrous consequences. At the same time, shifting by doing something unexpected can be fun. I'm fairly stoic. Always have been. This means I get really serious and hard on myself at times. For me, the shift I'm working towards is requiring that I relax a bit and stop being so serious.
Which is why I am taking the perspective of doing something unexpected—maybe even quirky, at times. For example, I started wearing a headband on occasion. I love it! I've had comments that I look like a pirate or a hippy, but for me, it's helping me loosen up and laugh at myself.
Obviously, this is a silly example of doing something different or unexpected to shift our mindset. However, every little bit makes a difference.
Currently, I'm faced with the need to do something different in order to take Paola Lane to the next level. It's a bigger step in doing something different than I'm used to, or comfortable with. However, I'm looking for ways to slip in the unexpected as well.
Doing something different and unexpected in order to shift a mindset or situation can be slow going, feeling as if nothing is happening, but one day we'll look out and see we're headed in a new direction.
What's something fun or unexpected you can do? Here's a few ideas:
