Who Or What Is The God Of Your Imagination?
"Who do you say I am?" - Jesus
What do you imagine about God? About Heaven? Jesus (Yeshua)?
I ask because for those who are followers of Christ, this is Holy week. Admittedly, I have an extremely busy week with very little prepared in terms of observance and celebration. yet, at the same time, I haven't stopped thinking about who is Jesus and the events of this week so long ago—and the meaning of it now.
I tried to think of something clever and inspiring to say in today's email to capture all that is on my heart but instead I'd like for us to just think about what we think about God and the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
Maybe you're not sure yourself what you think or believe about who or what is God. Certainly God and Jesus are trending topics in social media lately, but from what I've seen, it's resulted in a curious variety of ideas about who God is.
We all have our filters that alter our perception of God. We're also influenced by the opinions and instruction of others. Also, we tend to create an idea of God that suits our need, wants, and desires (our wishes). And so, we all create a god in our own image.
This week, I'd like to challenge us to humble ourselves and ask God who He is. No matter who you are or how long you've been going to church (or not) or how much you know about the Bible…we all have some misunderstanding. Let's open ourselves up to admit we have some inaccurate perceptions of God. From there, we can invite the Holy Spirit of God to correct wrong assumptions or ideas. He will reveal Himself, if we ask, and have a willing heart to be teachable.
Ultimately, the point is to know God better—as He is—versus what we imagine Him to be.
